National Alopecia Areata Foundation

As part of our ForGirlsLikeUs "Give Back" program, we are thrilled to announce our involvement with the National Alopecia Areata Foundation (NAAF). The NAAF supports research to find a cure or acceptable treatment of alopecia areata, supports those with the disease and educates the public about alopecia areata.

In alopecia areata, the affected hair follicles are mistakenly attacked by a person's own immune system (white blood cells), resulting in the arrest of the hair growth stage. Alopecia areata usually starts with one or more small, round, smooth bald patches on the scalp and can progress to total scalp hair loss (alopecia totalis) or complete body hair loss (alopecia universalis).

Alopecia areata affects ease affects approximately 2% of the population overall, including more than 5 million people in the United States alone.

ForGirlsLikeUs will be donating 5 full lace units to people with alopecia areata each year. If you or someone you know suffers from alopecia areata and are interested in finding out more about the program, please visit the NAAF’s website at http://www.naaf.org/.
